Grab a coffee — this one's worth it.
Most service-business websites lose leads not because they're ugly, but because they're missing five foundational elements. Here's the checklist.
Your website should work as hard as you do. But most service-business sites we audit are doing one job — looking nice — and failing at the job that pays: converting visitors into booked appointments.
Foundation one: a phone number above the fold on every page. It sounds obvious. It is missing on roughly 40% of the sites we review. For local service businesses, a significant portion of your highest-intent traffic wants to call, not fill out a form. Make it one tap away on mobile.
Foundation two: a single, specific primary call to action. 'Learn more' is not a call to action. 'Book a free consultation' is. Every page should have one clear next step — not five competing links. Decision fatigue kills conversions.
Foundation three: proof within the first scroll. Reviews, client logos, or a short results stat should appear before the second screen. Your visitor is deciding whether to trust you; give them the evidence early, not buried on a sub-page.
Foundation four: a form that matches the intent. A 12-field quote form on a cold homepage visitor will convert at a fraction of a 3-field 'request a callback' form. Match the friction of the form to the temperature of the traffic.
Foundation five: speed. A site that loads in under two seconds converts measurably better than one that loads in four. We build for Core Web Vitals because they are not a vanity metric — they are a revenue metric.
If your site is missing two or more of these, you are leaving booked appointments on the table every week. It's usually a quick fix — and often the highest-ROI change you can make this quarter.
